The Los Angeles Sparks are reportedly going to hire Derek Fisher as their next head coach, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Fisher, who helped the Lakers win five National Basketball Association titles, coached the New York Knicks from 2014 to 2016. He went 40-96 in two seasons at the helm for the New York Knicks and was sacked midway through his second season after the team posted a 23-31 record.

The Sparks' previous coach, Brian Agler, resigned on Friday following four seasons in Los Angeles. After many successful years as one of the team atop the WNBA, the Sparks ended last season with a second-round playoff exit which doesn't meet the standards of a franchise used to competing for conference and league titles. "With his wealth of experience as a former player and head coach, I can't think of a better steward for our basketball team moving forward".

Fisher takes over a talented team led by two-time MVP Candace Parker.

This will be Fisher's second head coaching opportunity.

"Derek is a champion and proven leader on and off the court", Sparks executive vice president and general manager Penny Toler said.

Fisher helped the Los Angeles Lakers win five National Basketball Association titles during his 18-season playing career and served as president of the players' union.
