Pep Guardiola unhappy with Manchester City as Frenkie De Jong deal stalls

Frenkie De Jong

Ajax's Frenkie De Jong agrees to join Paris Saint-Germain over Manchester City

"It is nearly certain that De Jong, 21, will exchange Ajax for Paris Saint-Germain", popular tabloid De Telegraaf said.

The Holland global has caught the eye of a slew of Europe's top clubs with a string of impressive performances for Erik ten Hag's side, who now sit in second place in the Eredivisie.

De Jong, who can also play as a centre back or even a No.10, has scored twice and provided one assist in the Eredivisie this season, while he has also completed 21/25 attempted dribbles.

"It's hard to say what will happen", De Jong told the Guardian.

"I hear the stories but I just want to finish this season well".

The 21-year-old is now one of the most highly rated young players in world football and he, along with teammate Matthijs De Ligt, has been linked heavily with possible moves to Barcelona and Manchester City.

In an interview with The Guardian on Thursday, De Jong admitted he is uncertain over where his future lies.

"Frenkie is guaranteed to stay with Ajax until the summer and I cannot say anything about it".

"I love this style", he said.

Ajax has reportedly set De Jong's price at 75 million euro, a figure that could be deemed too high for Barcelona.

"He is a player who really impressed me during our two matches with the Netherlands", Mbappe told France Football.

He was a target for Manchester City in January, as Pep Guardiola seeks to add depth to his midfield.

"His vision and the quality of his passing that breaks the lines make him very valuable, especially because he also intercepts a considerable amount of balls".

"I already know him for a long time".

"Each player must personally make his choice".
