Criminal Minds is to end after one more season.

In a statement on the show's official Twitter page, it was confirmed: "Hey, #CriminalMinds fans-we've got big news".

"We wanted to make sure Erica had the time and ability to write a season (14) finale that honors the characters and the fans", Reisenbach said.

The final season of Criminal Minds will be an emotional ride for fans of the show. After the 15-episode 14th season, the crime drama will return for a final 10 episodes for Season 15, Deadline reports. Production will continue straight into Season 15, which is slated for ten episodes. The final season will have 10 episodes and the final episode count will be 325.

According to Deadline, CBS, CBS TV Studios and co-producers ABC Studios agreed to extend Criminal Minds for an additional 10 episodes to allow the series a "proper ending" after showrunner Erica Messer deemed extra episodes necessary to prevent Season 14 ending with a series finale or unresolved cliffhangers. So far, we know that the final season will feel more like a serial drama than a procedural.

The original cast of Criminal Minds includes Mandy Patinkin as Jason Gideon, Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner, Lola Glaudini as Elle Greenaway, Shemar Moore as Derek Morgan, Matthew Gray Gubler as Spencer Reid, A.J. Cook as Jennifer Jareau, and Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia.
