It opened the conference by revealing the Vive Pro Eye - a take on the existing Pro headset but with foveated rendering and eye tracking - but closed the conference with the Vive Cosmos, a completely new VR headset. In other words: you can navigate around menus and other content just by looking at them. This was coupled with the announcement that it will empower developers to make websites catered towards VR users. It's a redesign of the Vive's software and should bring it closer in line with what Oculus Home has to offer, where moving between VR experiences feels seamless.
Admittedly, it's not entirely clear from HTC's press release whether the Vive Cosmos is, in fact, a PC-based headset. Clearly it's going to work with a phone... but how? HTC is a bit mysterious about it but it pretty much looks like a new virtual world you can "walk" into to experience other virtual worlds. Despite having a presence at the event, details regarding the new headset are rather scarce for now though since the company stated that more information regarding it will only be shared in the coming months. Why hint at something that consumers will get the most excited about and then not elaborate any further? It was a launch in tone, but one that didn't fill in the blanks. The result of this partnership is Firefox Reality, a native VR browsing experience.
As the name suggests, HTC Vive Pro Eye uses built-in eye tracking. It still could very well be the future of entertainment. HTC says it has focused on making the device as comfortable as possible and ensuring that it is as easy as possible for the average user to set up.
This is where the Vive Cosmo comes in.
