Gothenburg - Volvo's new Polestar brand has released the first "preliminary" details about its upcoming "fastback" sedan, along with a teaser image showing its sweeping roofline from above.

While the exact specifications are not known, the Polestar 2's power output is reported to be around 395 BHP. Toyota reveals its first fully-self driving vehicle.

It's also hinted that the Polestar 2 will serve as the debut platform for Google Android HMI, which features Google's new in-car version of its Assistant program.

Since the Polestar 2 will compete with the Tesla Model 3, the company said we can expect similar pricing.

Expected to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the 2 is thought to be a mid-size four-door saloon, taking aim at the likes of the Tesla Model 3.

According to a statement, "The auto will go into production shortly after the long-range hybrid Polestar 1, which will enter production later this year".

The vehicle with be priced from about $45,000, putting it in the same price range as Tesla's Model 3, which starts around $45,000 after Tesla cut the price by $2,000 this week. The automaker went on to say the auto will be available through a subscription or traditional "cash sales". The Swedish auto maker is expected to officially unveil the Polestar 2 at the Geneva Motor Show in March with the global launch to follow towards the end of 2019.
