Danai Gurira leaving 'Walking Dead' next season

And now, a moment of silence, if you will - and not just because when AMC's The Walking Dead returns Sunday for the back half of Season 9 (9/8c), Samantha Morton's Alpha and the Whisperers will be scaring us speechless on the regular.

The Walking Dead was already suffering from the departure of Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes after season nine - and now many fans are describing Danai Gurira's exit as the final straw for the show. Her appearances will be limited to only a few episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But Dwight is finally ready to return to the franchise on Fear the Walking Dead.

Gurira joined AMC's horror drama in Season 3 and has become one of the show's breakout stars, rising to the second-billed spot behind Norman Reedus after Lincoln and Cohan left.

Another star of hit zombie drama The Walking Dead is expected to leave the long-running United States series after much speculation. Her loss will be a big blow to the show's creative plans. We love Danai; we love that character.

Michonne has always been my favorite character in the series, so it's tough to see her leave. Right now, she's got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her. We're thrilled for what's in store for her.

She's since acted in a number of high-profile roles outside the dust-strewn wastes of the zombie-plagued apocalypse, including 2018 blockbusters Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

I don't know how surprising this news is, really. "The goal is to have Danai continue on whatever basis she can make work, given the other things that she has going on in her life". It is believed that she will also be present in the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters in April.
