On Monday, quarterback Kyler Murray announced that he has made a decision to pick football over baseball.
"Football has been my love and passion my entire life", the 2018 Heisman Trophy victor wrote on Twitter. "I was raised to play QB, and I very much look forward to dedicating [100 percent] of myself to being the best QB possible and winning National Football League championships".
The former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback and 2018 first-round pick of the Oakland Athletics released a statement on Twitter declaring his intent to play in the NFL. Murray was the Heisman Trophy award victor and helped the Sooners make the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Should Murray be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft as expected, he will be the first player drafted in the top round of the MLB and NFL drafts.
Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson are the highest-profile dual-sport stars, as both played baseball and football at the same time in the 1990s.

Kyler Murray might not be an A's prospect for much longer.

Oakland selected Murray with the ninth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. One can imagine that all of those factors were weighed heavily by Murray when making the decision to ultimately spurn the A's in pursuit of football.
The Broncos were undoubtedly interested in Mayfield last year, which has me wondering if they are going to show any interest in Kyler Murray this year.
There will always be kids who choose baseball, either because they love it the most or because their talents on the diamond outstrip their skills on the gridiron or basketball court.
