Irving, who's dealt with knee problems before, doesn't appear to have a serious injury on his hands. The Celtics guard is listed as day-to-day.

Hayward, 28, hasn't come back as the player he was prior to the injury, averaging 10.8 points, while shooting 31.7 percent from the perimeter.

The 26-year-old Australian-born American, the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, underwent left knee surgery last April.

A bacterial infection was discovered at the site of the screws when Irving had surgery in March 2018 to remove tension wire in the knee. He noted multiple times that the recent stretch - even when the team was winning - has not been "fun". I just don't see the joy in the game.

After losing 129-128 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, it seemed there was no way the Boston Celtics could suffer a more shocking loss-given it was Rajon Rondo who hit the game-winner on Thursday.

"For us to be a championship team, man, this (crap) has to change", he said.

The Celtics will look to bounce back from their consecutive losses when they travel to take on their rival Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. "And I just felt like one thing we're missing is enjoying the game, enjoying this process, and I just spoke on it".

"I did a poor job of setting an example for these young guys what it's like to get something out of your teammates", Irving said afterward. "This team, I feel a lot different about and I want to push us to that position".

I'm trying to win and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win... He once played on a team that finished the regular season with 25 wins. "That's the goal. The trade deadline's over".

"This is the team we're rocking with. We all know what type of game it's going to be like". We'll find out. Our story will be told at the end if we made it or not. "It's unacceptable for what we did with a team of our caliber".
