National Basketball Association trade deadline: Raptors acquire Marc Gasol from Grizzlies

Raptors guard Lowry I've never asked for a trade

Amid reports of a potential trade to the Memphis Grizzlies Kyle Lowry says he would prefer to stay with the Toronto

The 34-year-old Spanish 7-footer (2.16m) has played for the Grizzlies since making his 2008 National Basketball Association debut but was moved to the contending Raptors at Thursday's league trade deadline. "We look forward to welcoming Marc to our city and team".

First, Gasol gives the Raptors a little more punch on both ends of the floor.

"I think that there's a lot of positives with a guy like Gasol, and I think majority come with being battle-tested", Nurse said. "I love Toronto and I want to stay here".

The Grizzlies will also receive Jonas Valanciunas and a 2024 second-round draft pick from Memphis in exchange for the 7-foot-1 big man. The current iteration of Gasol is a little older, a little less effective defensively and a lot more expensive than the centre he'll be replacing for the remainder of this year and likely next.

The 34-year-old center leaves the Grizzlies as the all-time leader in points, blocks, and minutes played.

Toronto (39-16) is two games back of the Milwaukee Bucks (40-13) atop the Eastern Conference. Conley is third at 12 seasons. He's making $8.3 million this season with an $8.7 million player option next year. The amount of his bonus (if not waived) will be applied to his $24.1 million salary. The Spaniard is no doubt excited to play for a Toronto team which can win the championship this season, but Gasol wanted to say his final goodbye to Memphis, a place he called home for 11 years.

Jonas Valanciunas had been sidelined since December 12 (Dec. 13, PHL time) with a dislocated left thumb.

In 53 games, Conley has averaged 20.4 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 6.4 assists per game - all in the top-three for his career.

Miles, 31, is averaging 5.5 points and 1.7 rebounds this season.

Valanciunas, Miles and Wright can enter free agency next season.

Ujiri said some of the minor moves were made to get the luxury tax line down in advance of potential buyouts.
