While still relatively little-known, Rich Energy have been linked with involvement at F1 teams for the past two seasons but potential tie-ups with Force India and Williams have not materialised. Storey, donning a purple blazer for launch day, was centre stage, drawing cheers from the attendees that packed the club's hallway balcony overlooking the new vehicle when he was introduced ahead of the unveil.
Haas are the first team to reveal images of a 2019 Formula 1 auto.
The American team has dropped the red, grey and black colours associated with owner Gene Haas' company, Haas Automation, in favour of those of new title sponsor Rich Energy, a new and little-known energy drinks company from London.
Team Principal Steiner and the drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean tried to play down the comments when they were asked about them later in the morning, though Steiner did admit having such a bold ambition was healthy. Grosjean was complimentary and the fact the colour scheme echoed that of Lotus a few years ago when the Frenchman enjoyed his most successful period in F1 with 10 podiums was evidently not lost on him.
"It's important that we keep progressing as a team, and this season is no different", said Steiner. "They're a David taking on Goliath within Formula 1 and we're doing the same in the drinks business". Haas F1 was formed ahead of the 2016 F1 championship and was at the bottom end of the constructors standings, finishing eighth in its first two years. With sheer pace through most of the races and several finishes in top 10, Haas did show it can be promising in the upcoming season as well.
This is despite the actual season still not getting underway until mid-March - so at least it gives the fans something to get excited about.
