Agent frenzy: DE Smith, S Amos, OL Turner to sign with Packers

The 26-year-old Smith, originally a fourth-round pick, led the Ravens, who ranked No. 1 in the National Football League in defense last season, with 8.5 sacks and 60 quarterback pressures despite starting only half of their games. "He was never able to replicate his 11-sack season in 2016", Demovsky says.

Tuesday, one year after the Packers tried - and failed - to lure restricted free agent cornerback Kyle Fuller away from their rivals, they landed safety Adrian Amos.

Now under the direction of Brian Gutekunst, the new sheriff in Green Bay, the Packers have taken on a completely different approach to free agency. Smith has 24.5 career sacks and he totaled a person-best 53 tackles last season.

Amos spent four seasons with the Bears.

In his fourth season with the Ravens, Smith reached career highs with 45 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and 25 quarterback hits as Baltimore fielded the NFL's top defense in 2018. Smith will be a huge addition to a pass rush that struggled mightily to create consistent pressure on the quarterback in 2018.

With Smith's signing, it likely means Green Bay will cut ties with Nick Perry.

Schefter reports that the Packers are signing former Broncos OL Billy Turner to a four-year, $28 million deal. Smith gives them a trio of impactful players.

The Packers certainly aren't afraid to pay for upgrades. He signed with the Packers for $52.2 million over four years ($13 million/year).

He recorded 73 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups last season for the Bears, who won the NFC Central.

For now, the Packers have made substantial improvements to a defense that desperately needed them.
