Weekend box office Captain Marvel silences the haters

Brie Larson on their super-hero role-playing

Captain Marvel was easily the number one film at the box office this weekend.

Brie Larson stunned "Captain Marvel" fans by showing up to a number of screenings of the film during its opening weekend.

The film has once again shown that when underrepresented demographics get their chance in promising entertainment, audiences will come out to see with their wallets wide open. To combat the down-voting issue in advance of "Captain Marvel", Rotten Tomatoes (which doesn't require users to verify that they've seen a movie that they're scoring) removed the ability to rate movies prior to release. Now, the film is estimated to have gathered a cool $153m from that market instead, making it the highest grossing film of 2019 so far in only three days.

The opening weekend box office tally is the fifth biggest in IMAX history and best ever for the month of March.

According to CNN, the forecast for the North American box office had been $130 million. Hot Toys presents many designs of mini-sized Cosbaby Captain Marvel action figures, a 1/6TH Scale Collection Figure collection that has authentic and detailed likeness of Captain Marvel in the movie, and accessories including Goose the Cat. The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. On Saturday, Captain Marvel witnessed a higher collection and Day 2 numbers stood at Rs 14.10 crore.

Captain Marvel introduced the Skrulls to the MCU, but this particular group of shapeshifters was seeking refuge from the Kree soldiers who were hunting them down. Brie Larson gives the character relatability, likeability, and a role model for all. Second-place title How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World adds $14.7 million in its third weekend, bringing its cumulative domestic total to $119.7 million.

Fox's Alita: Battle Angel drew $468,000 in its fourth, reaching $10.2 million.
