Smart got tangled up with Embiid at the 11:08 mark of the third quarter while trying to steal a pass intended for the All-Star center on the perimeter. Smart had taken objection to Embiid sticking his left elbow out as Smart ran past the Philadelphia center on defense. Smart obviously didn't appreciate that, and immediately shoved Embiid in the back once he got to his feet.
Marcus Smart messed with the bull and the Boston Celtics got the horns. "We feel like we can beat anybody in this league". Smart appeared to challenge Embiid to continue the fight on the side as he was being walked to the locker room.
Rozier, however, poked fun at Philly for their reaction with the win and said that he "thought the confetti was going to drop" after the game.
Embiid, meanwhile, was hit with a technical foul for his role in the play.
With Smart out for the final 25 minutes of Wednesday's game, the Sixers outscored the Celtics 60-46, and it really wasn't until Jimmy Butler's fourth-quarter beast mode that the Celtics really missed having a defender as tenacious as Smart.
Embiid poured in 37 points, a career-high 22 rebounds, going 20-of-21 at the free throw line and with plenty of pre-game talk surrounding the matchup with Al Horford, Embiid was a man on a mission, sending a message ahead of the playoffs. "I didn't see it coming".
