Report: Former ND, NFL running back arrested on child abuse charge

Las Vegas police have arrested former Notre Dame and National Football League running back Cierre Wood on charges connected to the death of a child, according to multiple reports.

Police took Wood into custody Wednesday, KVVU reported.

He's accused of killing his girlfriend's daughter, 5-year-old La'Rayah Davis. Shortly the child passed away in a Las Vegas hospital on Tuesday night, the arrests were made at the hospital that same night, as it became more apparent to authorities that something was amiss.

Danuan Davis is the little girl's father. Wood and Amy Taylor, the girl's mother and Wood's girlfriend, had already been charged with child abuse/neglect.

He was due in court Thursday. "I never thought I'd bury my child at five years old". He had stints with the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills, seeing only limited time during the regular season. "She kept telling me something was wrong". I just talked to her that Monday before.

In the end, Judge Ann Zimmerman made a decision to keep the former football player in jail.

He said he wished he could "tell her I'm sorry that I didn't listen to her".

Wood played for Notre Dame from 2010 to 2013.
