Amazon Announces a Smaller, Cheaper Echo Show

It will become available on June 26, Amazon says.

Buyers will be able to choose from charcoal and sandstone colors, and it costs Rs 8,999.

How much does it cost? .

Tom Taylor, senior vice president of Amazon Alexa, said the compact form factor is flawless for a bedside table or desk.

There's also a new Alexa Privacy Hub, which covers all Alexa devices.

Amazon unveiled the latest iteration of its Echo Show device on Wednesday along with more privacy and smart home controls built into its digital assistant ecosystem.

The company also announced a new privacy-centric feature that will be available to all Alexa users: the ability to more easily delete your voice recordings. And users will soon be able to delete their last request by saying, "Alexa, delete what I just said". Previously, the only way to remove recordings was a tool on the Alexa privacy website. The newest member of the Echo line-up features a 5.5-inch 960x480-pixels screen, a 1-megapixel camera, and a single full-range 1.65-inch speaker.

The camera on the £119.99 ($129) Echo Spot, which doubles up as a "smart alarm", will also probably be facing directly at the user's bed.

Amazon has maintained that it doesn't record Alexa users' conversations, but that hasn't prevented many users, experts and privacy advocates from growing more wary about putting one in their home. If most of your photos are on Facebook you can also link it up to you account to play a slideshow of your photos. It's also compatible with Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn and Apple Music.

Hopefully Amazon has addressed the bass-heavy presentation we found in the previous Echo Show, which we found a little off-putting when it came to spoken word content like podcasts or radio shows. And that means, despite Amazon and Google having made up, there's still no sign of YouTube coming to Echo Show devices.

Now, as well as giving Alexa voice commands, you can do things like turning your lights off by using on-screen controls.

Amazon is bigging up the smart speaker's audio capabilities, describing it as ideal for playlists.

You'll need to enable delete by voice in the Alexa app before you can use the new privacy feature. As such, the Echo Show 5 launches with a vast library of Alexa Skills already updated to support the display, so users can play their favourite game shows like Pointless or Deal or No Deal, discover what to watch with the "TV Guide" Skill, or study for your driving test with the "Driving Theory Test" Skill, to name a few.
