The Keanu Reeves-led film and Halle Berry-accompanied racked in a total of $22.67 million dollars from Friday alone and is expected to surpass the superhero flick by the end of the weekend.

"This is the best reviewed film of the series so far", said Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in a statement.

"Avengers: Endgame", which slid to second place on domestic box office charts, has now earned $771 million in North America.

The third installment of the John Wick franchise opened up at nearly double the opening for John Wick: Chapter 2 ($30M) and over four times the amount of the original John Wick ($14M) back in 2012. Domestically, where the film has grossed $711 million, it's now second only to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($937 million) and globally, with $2.6 billion, it's still second to "Avatar" ($2.8 billion).

The boogeyman John Wick has taken down many different adversaries, the latest on his list is Avengers: Endgame.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu placed third with $24.8 million and A Dog's Journey opened in fourth with an underwhelming $8 million. When it comes to John Wick films, audiences don't ask for much: Keanu Reeves shooting people in the face. From there, it's a pretty steep drop to A Dog's Journey at number 4 with $9 million. "It feels like in the future, these kinds of movies may only be on streaming services". A sequel to 2017's A Dog's goal, the film falls far short of its predecessor, which opened to $18.2 million. But audiences who did turn out gave it an A CinemaScore, which could point toward long-term playability. The film opened to an estimated $2.6 million across 2,073 theaters for eighth place. The teen drama stars "Grown-ish's" Yara Shahidi and Charles Melton and follows a young couple that falls in love despite one of their families facing deportation. The third installment received an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the same as the second installment, and three percentage points better than the original. But then again, Godzilla is coming the following weekend. Where available, the latest worldwide numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included.
