"They also talked about North Korea, Ukraine, and Venezuela-overall a very positive conversation and we'll have a more detailed readout coming shortly", she said.
She said the White House would provide more information later Friday.
The Russian statement did not reference the Mueller report or the special counsel investigation.
China is interested in joining a nuclear "pact" with US and Russian Federation to reduce the number of nuclear warheads, US President Donald Trump said. We discussed Trade, Venezuela, Ukraine, North Korea, Nuclear Arms Control and even the "Russian Hoax". Mueller didn't find evidence that Trump or any of his associates conspired with the Russian effort. It did not offer a conclusion on whether Trump obstructed justice. It is still destined to be a hot button issue in Washington for a long time, however, considering how this week's congressional hearings with Attorney General William Barr went.
"Trump's failure to confront Putin on election interference wasn't out of cowardice or absentmindedness".
"But what I can tell you is that this administration - unlike the previous one - takes election meddling seriously, and we're going to do everything that we can to prevent it from happening".
"They discussed nuclear agreements both new and extended with the possibility of having conversations with China on that front as well", Sanders told reporters. They will not for a moment get the attention of President Putin.
Sanders said Trump mentioned several times "the need and importance of Russian Federation stepping up and continuing to put pressure on North Korea to denuclearize".
The call also included an extensive discussion of the situation in Venezuela, Sanders said. The U.S. has been pressuring Maduro to abdicate control to Juan Guaido, whom the U.S. and dozens of other countries recognize as the rightful leader.
Trump's closest advisers have sharply objected to Russia's presence in the hemisphere and blamed Moscow for helping keep Maduro in place.
According to the White House, the president reiterated several times on the phone call with Putin his focus to stand with the Venezuelan people as the country is embattled by mass protests.
"The president was relaying what President Putin said him - that's it", Sanders told reporters.
Mr Trump and Mr Putin are also said to have addressed ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Kremlin said the two also covered Venezuela.
The US State Department said Pompeo urged Russian Federation on the call to stop supporting Maduro. "The presidents have confirmed their mutual commitment to activate dialogue in various spheres, including on the issues of strategic stability", the message added.
Putin seemed amused, said Trump. Trump then expressed an interest in working with Russian in another way. Putin has denied that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 US presidential campaign. "The conversation between Trump and Putin lasted for nearly 1.5 hours", Peskov said.
