That never happened as Woodland played a classy game on his final six holes, avoided bogeys and finished in style with a 30 foot putt on the final hole to secure a comfortable win.
Scenic Pebble Beach, where the U.S. Open champion was crowned for a sixth time on Sunday, may be one of golf's iconic venues but remains a public course available to anyone willing to shell out $550 for a round and wait in line for a tee time.
The Monterey peninsula is one of golf's most popular and expensive destinations.
"I think from a golf standpoint I've always been a little behind just from what you're talking about, guys that have grown up doing this their whole life", Woodland said.
Woodland took time to acknowledge the role his own dad played in bringing him to this point, as well as the perspective he's gained in both his family's loss and its growth. They were real. He was all-state as a senior, but when he didn't get any Division I offers, he signed with Washburn.
