At the time, Trump was trying to pull the wool over George Stephanopoulos's eyes about his mysterious tax returns, which he claims will have people "very impressed".

We're now two years and some change into President Donald Trump's first term, and just when you think there are no further depths to which the former reality star can sink - somehow, he still manages to surprise us.

The president only stops bragging about the "fantastic financial statement" no one is allowed to see to humiliate Mulvaney for coughing, and ultimately dismiss him from the room for causing a distraction.

ABC News aired several headline-making clips of Stephanopoulos' sit down with Trump prior to the primetime special, so perhaps viewers were sick of it before it officially aired.

"Inside and out, the excitement at this Trump rally will be something to remember as President Trump makes history", Campaign Chief Operating Officer Michael Glassner said in a statement to reporters.

"If you're going to cough, please leave the room", the president continued, briefly pointing his finger for emphasis. "You just can't, you just can't cough", Trump said. According to the Washington Post, Trump's 2016 team was well aware of this peculiar Trump tick and warned staffers never to cough or sneeze in Trump's presence because he interprets it as a sign of weakness.

A clearly irritated Trump points his finger, shakes his head, declaring, "He's coughing in the middle of my answer".
