Who Is Stephanie Grisham? 5 Facts About White House Press Secretary

As press secretary for Melania Trump, Grisham received a nickname of the "enforcer", according to a profile in the Washington Post, for her strong defense of the first lady.

Stephanie Grisham has been named as Donald Trump's new press secretary and communications director, replacing Sarah Sanders.

Grisham has been with Melania Trump since the campaign. Grisham will be assuming the roles formerly held by Bill Shine, who departed as White House communications director in March, and Sanders, who has said her last day will be this Friday.

Grisham will be accompanying the President in her new capacity on his trip to Japan and Korea this week.

Grishman beat out several internal candidates, including J. Hogan Gidley, principal deputy press secretary, and Strategic Communications Director Mercedes Schlapp. Since moving to the East Wing, she has developed a reputation internally as a trusted adviser and loyal defender of the first lady. The first lady loves her, thinks she's been, you know, just incredible.

She previously worked as a spokeswoman and a communications operative in Republican politics, including Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign for president. "#BeBest", wrote Melania Trump on Twitter.

Stephanie Grisham is stepping into Sarah Huckabee Sanders' shoes and becoming the next White House press secretary.

Sanders, under whom relations with the press have never been better than distinctly rocky, will leave at the end of June. He said Grisham accepted the job after he offered it Tuesday morning. When asked about the possibility of Grisham assuming the role during a Fox & Friends interview, Melania said "Stephanie is terrific".

Sanders would not comment on what plans Grisham may or may not have for press briefings.

Last fall, reports circulated that deputy national security adviser Mira Ricardel clashed with members of the first lady's staff as Mrs Trump prepared for her first solo trip overseas to Africa.

"I've always found it sad that a group of women spend so much time attacking another woman, whose only goal is to help children", she said.

It is a smart move that the next press secretary will, like Sarah Sanders, be a working mom.

Prior to joining Trump's team, Grisham had worked for Sen.
