Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny refuses to join pre-season tour

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny refuses to join squad for pre-season tour to USA

Koscielny refuses to join Arsenal's pre-season tour

Arsenal have begun disciplinary proceedings against their captain Laurent Koscielny following his refusal to travel to the United States for the Premier League club's preseason tour.

The France global has made 27 appearances in all competitions this campaign for the Gunners as injury hampered his season. Ligue 1 trio of Lyon, Bordeaux and Rennes have reportedly shown interest in the defender. 'We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time'.

On returning from a summer break, Koscielny informed the club of his wish to leave but Arsenal rejected the request.

"Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the U.S. for our pre-season tour".

And, as per the aforementioned report from Sky Sports News this evening, Koscielny's actions look set to land the stopper in hot water with the Arsenal hierarchy.

While Koscielny is not the same player he once was, at 33, he was still putting in good performances previous year.

This decision from Koscielny will no doubt have a huge impact on the locker room.

Wright is confounded at the timing of the furore surrounding Koscielny as Arsenal aim to challenge for a top-four place when the Premier League gets under way on August 9. A £27 million (€34m) deal has been agreed for Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, but he will spend the coming season back in France on loan with his former club.

Koscielny joined Arsenal in 2010 from Lorient.

SunSport exclusively revealed that Arsenal will fine Koscielny and force him to train with the kids after his shock move.

"I love you Laurent but this is a poor decision to make".

What a mess. Koscielny hasn't conducted himself well here, and Arsenal putting this out in the open has escalated the seriousness of the situation.
