In a statement, Utica Police said the first responding officer who arrived at the home found Clark lying on the ground next to the auto, and when he spotted police, he began to stab himself.

"The male advised [the officer] that the female was beneath the tarp, and proceeded to pull out a cell phone", police said in their statement. She had extensive injuries to her neck, they said.

Police identified the victim as Devins. Clark is now being held in a correctional facility after undergoing surgery for his self-inflicted wounds, which were described as "severe" by police, though he is expected to survive.
