The Blues have been banned from registering new players for two consecutive transfer windows after Federation Internationale de Football Association found them guilty of breaching regulations relating to the signing of under-18s. "The young players are unbelievable, they have the quality already to play for this club, so I have to do my role as a senior player trying to help them and also doing my job". "We can't bring any players in, we know that - this year - but I don't need new players".
Luiz admits that everyone connected with the clubs is determined to build on that success, with trophy challenges demanded at one of the biggest teams on the planet.
David Luiz played alongside Lampard for three and a half seasons at Stamford Bridge between 2011 and 2014 and believes the club's record goalscorer is showing the same leadership qualities off the pitch as he did on it. "I have my own way that I want to work with the players", he added.
"I watched a lot of Chelsea a year ago under Maurizio Sarri", he said ahead of Chelsea's pre-season clash with Kawasaki Frontale in Yokohama.
"We have some very good young players here and they have to impress in every game and every training session".
Having already worked under Lampard, one can expect bright things from Mount, should he be inculcated in the first-team setup at the Bridge. They now have to make the difference. It's a pathway that's given to them and now they have to be the ones who play well enough to get into the team.
The Frenchman added: "I think he is the right person. It's up to those young players to show what they can do".
Chelsea will now look to secure Callum Hudson-Odoi's future amid links with Bayern Munich.
David Luiz has hailed Frank Lampard's leadership abilities as Chelsea continue their pre-season preparations under their new head coach. They'll face Kawasaki Frontale in Yokohama on Friday, before a meeting with Barcelona in Saitama on Tuesday week (July 23).
