We've got San Diego Comic-Con later in the week, but it looks like 20th Century Fox and Disney just couldn't wait to unveil a major genre teaser in the form of the first trailer for Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman prequel movie, The King's Man. A third Kingsman movie will be continuing the story of Taron Egerton's Eggsy, and a Statesman spin-off movie is in the works along with a possible television series too.
Director Matthew Vaughn is once again on board to helm this new prequel installment. The duo is working against a collection of history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds - including the legendary Rasputin (Rhys Ifans) with a deadly gleam in his eye as he spins around while attacking with a sword.
These Kingsman movies are about a secret order of British spies who wear dapper suits and name themselves after figures from Arthurian legends. It's wrapped. [But] it's not actually called The Great Game. Now, one man must race against time to stop them. "And then we hope to shoot Kingsman 3 either late this year or early next year, but it won't be out until 2021, so, who knows?"
We see one such "nobleman" attending a ball in an ornate ballroom, surrounded by lovely women, intercut with the starkly contrasting image of some type of council seated around a long table, pounding their fists in unison. "And Kingsman will always make the spy film that no one else is touching".
He said: "I almost directed a Bond [film]".
This certainly appears to be the case, and if you ask us, turning back the clock to reveal the origins of the Kingsman is a bold and interesting narrative choice. "I'm an espionage freak, so this was my version".
Welcome to the stylish first teaser for The King's Man, a prequel to the two Kingsman films have banked a combined $825 million worldwide.
