Tomb Raider's Simon Yam has been treated in hospital after being stabbed.

An incredible and disturbing scene unfolded on Saturday in Zhongshan, China, as the beloved Hong Kong actor Simon Yam was assaulted, stabbed and repeatedly slashed on stage during a government lecture to the Beijing Easyhome construction materials business.

A video was posted on China's Twitter-like Weibo service showing a man in a dark vest rushing up to the stage and attacking Yam with a knife in the city of Zhongshan in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.

Meanwhile, the Zhongshan police last Saturday evening identified the suspect as a 53-year-old local resident who they said had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

According to his management company, he suffered minor damage to his internal organs and four fingers on his right hand.

Simon Yam is a prolific movie and TV actor and producer. He won critical acclaim for his role in the Hong Kong crime film Contact in 1992, and is best known for starring in the 2003 Hollywood film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, in which he appeared as the villain Chen Lo.

Another video shows Yam touching his stomach and realizing he is bleeding. It can then be seen striking at Mr. Yam, who desperately attempts to get away by seizing his stomach.
