Serena Williams is chasing an eighth Wimbledon crown while Simona Halep is bidding to become the first Romanian to win a singles title.

Simona Halep poses with the trophy as she celebrates after winning the final against Serena Williams at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, July 13, 2019.

Williams is trying to equal the record for most Grand Slam singles titles won in tennis history.

And, according to her mentor that would be the end of the debate, therefore making this final against Simona Halep the most important match she's ever played. Williams never seemed to get into the game after the shock of dropping her first game. "It's incredible, so much credit to Halep ... she really just took the first set and Serena was so uncomfortable because she is used to dictating play". Her ability to track and return shots - often in ways that posed awkward questions for Williams - were a major component in her win.

A "Plan B" or even "Plan C" could come in handy for Halep as Williams was at her devastating best in 59-minute destruction of unseeded Czech Barbora Strycova in the semi-finals. "That's one thing that keeps me moving forward".

Williams may no longer be in her prime, but that's still good enough for No. 11 ranking in the world.

"I have worked a lot for this moment, it was an honour to play in front of the Royal Box".

Halep was not concerned with preventing Williams from winning a 24th Grand Slam title. "My ability to react quickly, my breasts make me uncomfortable when I play", she said.

She becomes Romania's first-ever Wimbledon singles champion, while Williams suffered a third consecutive defeat in a Grand Slam final after losses to Angelique Kerber at the same venue a year ago and Naomi Osaka at the US Open.

"I definitely feel like I play better when I'm calm". Williams is a seven-time champion at Wimbledon with her first win coming in 2002 against her own sister Venus Williams, who was the two-time defending champ at the time. I just did natural what it came in my inside.

"At the beginning of the tournament, I told the people at the locker room, it would be incredible because, if I win, I will get membership for life", she said.

I did not know her then, but I have seen some photos. Playing almost error-free tennis, Halep claimed the opening set, 6-2, in 26 minutes.

"I feel like I'm just really on this journey of just doing the best that I can", Williams said Saturday, "playing the best that I can when I can".

And in 2017, again wrote about it in Fortune saying: 'I want to bring my perspective and experiences as an athlete, an entrepreneur and a black woman to the boardroom and help create a more inclusive environment in this white, male-dominated industry'. "No matter what I do, I will always have a great career".
