Fossil's smartwatches will let iPhone users make calls

Fossil announces next gen smartwatches with improved battery life and iPhone calling support

Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch brings several upgrades, including 'multiple day' battery life

"We've made multi-day battery life for touchscreen smartwatches possible with one touch - a disruptor for smartwatches on the Wear OS by Google platform".

Fossil's latest smartphone technologies not only include functionality to make calls via iPhone, there's also more storage space and more RAM.

This new mode offers an "Extended Battery Mode" where users can extend to multiple days on a single charge while still enjoying essential features like notifications and heart rate. Some watches from other brands already offer this, but where the Fossil Gen 5 range really jumps ahead is in its ability for iPhone users to also take tethered calls from their watch.

Fossil makes some of the best smartwatches on the market, and in case you missed it, the Gen 5 series just dropped on August 5.

The Gen 5 has the Snapdragon WearTM 3100 chip also found in the Skagen Falster 2 that delivers far superior performance to the 2100 that was a mainstay for Wear OS devices for nigh on three years. Fossil Gen 5 will cost you $295, which roughly means around Rs 21,000. This is cool, but it'll take more than that to tempt an iPhone owner to buy a Wear OS watch when they can buy an Apple Watch that, you know, just works. The watch runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform. Many smartwatches have heart rate monitors but the software tends to not give you much useful information aside from BPM. These four battery saver modes - Extended Battery, Daily, Custom, and Time Only, are only available on the new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatches at the moment, but if you've recently bought a previous generation Fossil smartwatch, then you're in luck. The Fossil Gen 5 Juliana HR and Carlyle models measure 12mm in thickness and have a case size of 44mm.

The devices are water-resistant up to 3ATM and come with a variety of pre-installed apps, including one called Cardiogram which claims to be able to pick up signs of undiagnosed diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, and atrial fibrillation.

Fossil is also touting the prowess of the built-in speaker on the Gen 5. "It has a 1.3" touchscreen digital display and will have 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Other specifications include 8GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, NFC, heart rate sensor, standalone Global Positioning System a built-in speaker for taking calls. If Fossil's fifth-generation watch and its new features are what you've been waiting for, it appears you're going to be spoiled for choice.
