Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced that Harington would be playing the role of Dane Whitman, a non-Eternal, in the upcoming film, due out November 6, 2020. Amongst the most talked about upcoming MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) films is The Eternals. And if you're thinking that casting Harington as a sword-wielding, honor-bound hero who wears a lot of black sounds like typecasting...well, yeah, it does seem pretty on the nose.
Turns out, everyone was right, as Kit was confirmed to play Dane Whitman, also known as the Black Knight, in The Eternals. Black Knight had a real chance to take the comic world by storm in 2015, when Marvel made a decision to take on a full, line-wide soft reboot known as All-New, All-Different Marvel.
There's a small likelihood, though nothing has been rumoured, of a Kit Harington announcement coming tomorrow. The comic book giant's resident sword-wielder was the star of an ongoing Black Knight series by writer Frank Tieri - the first ongoing series to feature Dane Whitman as the titular character.
Now the latest name to join the list is non-other than Game of Thrones' very own Jon Snow - Kit Harington. And they don't get much bigger than Marvel.
But that's not all: also announced as joining the cast are The Killing of a Sacred Deer star Barry Keoghan and Crazy Rich Asians' Gemma Chan (who, curiously enough, recently appeared in Captain Marvel, though it doesn't seem she'll be playing the same character). Madden plays the Eternal Ikaris. The Eternals is being directed by The Rider (2017) helmer Chloé Zhao.
