City were keen to recoup the £26.5m they paid Real Madrid for Danilo two years ago.

Manchester City have completed the £60 million signing of Portugal right back, Joao Cancelo, from Juventus.

The 25-year-old defender signed a deal with Manchester City until June 2025, the English club announced late Wednesday. "I love the stadiums and the atmosphere".

He has previously featured for Benfica and Inter while he helped guide Portugal to the inaugural UEFA Nations League this summer.

Asked what attracted him to Manchester City, Cancelo was full of praise for manager Guardiola, revealing the club's recent successes made a move to the Etihad an attractive proposition. "That's why I'm here today", he said. "That's also one of the reasons why I've chose to come". I've always admired him and the way he plays since he started at Barcelona.

Danilo was part of the City squad that has won five domestic trophies in the past two seasons, but has played second fiddle to Kyle Walker at right-back. "Everyone talks wonderful about him so I'll accept the challenge and hopefully he will make me a better player".

Cancelo, a 14-times-capped Portugal global, spent one season at Juventus after spells at Valencia at Inter Milan, where he provided five assists during his season with Old lady, where he earned a winner's medal in both Serie A and the Italian Super Cup.

"He's an extraordinary person and for me he's the best".
