They were the No. 10 team entering last season before starting 2017 as the No. 6 team in the country.

The preseason AP poll is out and both Michigan and Michigan State are in the top 25. Michigan State posted a disappointing 7-6 record a year ago and brings back 17 starters on both sides of the ball. The Spartans are ahead of Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska which are all Big Ten West foes but the Badgers are the only one on the schedule for 2019. The preseason poll was released Monday morning.

Clemson is out front in the AP Top 25 with 1,540 points (52 first-place votes), followed by Alabama (1,496; 10 first-place votes), Georgia (1,403), Oklahoma (1,331) and Ohio State (1,261). There have been predictions from anywhere between 6-11 wins and even Big Ten titles, but no one truly knows what to expect from this veteran team. Murray was named the Preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year while graduate transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts was voted as the Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

UC Davis was two spots behind the Eagles with a fifth-place preseason poll ranking.

Montana State rounded out top 25 recognition for the Big Sky, as it was voted 15th with 271 points. They are coached by Dana Holgorsen, who compiled a 61-41 record as head coach at West Virginia the last eight seasons.
