Phoenix has been opening up about his preparation to play the infamous villain, revealing that he lost 52 pounds to play the villain, doing so in such a short amount of time that it actually helped him get into the mindset of the character.
"I didn't think that I could do it, I kind of practised alone but I asked Todd to come over to audition my laugh. Throughout the course of shooting it felt like every day we were discovering new parts of his personality, up until the very last day", he added. And without a doubt-long time DC fans will be spending a lot of time unpacking the many story revelations and questions this harrowing cautionary tale raises.
Phoenix says it was "almost painful" to try and get the laugh right.

This past weekend saw Joker not only appear to be a favorite among the press on hand to cover the film, but also a big victor once it made its big unveiling to the public.
