Emory Receives No. 21 Ranking for Third Year in a Row

UofSC is No. 1 nationwide for first-year student experience

Several Indiana colleges and universities are among the best in the country, according to annual rankings from U.S. News & World Report.

The rankings, released today, evaluate colleges and universities on a number of measures.

Emory's ranking for the "Best Value Schools" category, based on the average level of need-based financial aid and academic quality, has dropped to No. 21 from No. 19 for national universities.

Case Western Reserve University also made the No. 40 spot in the "National Universities" category.

Florida State University cracked into U.S. News & World Report's Top 20 public universities, coming in at #18. Faculty resources and expert opinion of schools each accounted for 20 percent of scores, followed by financial resources and student excellence at 10 percent each, and alumni giving at 5 percent.

The magazine ranked 388 national universities, defined as institutions offering a "full range of undergraduate majors" as well as master's and doctoral programs.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was ranked the Top Public School among Regional Universities in the West and 4th overall Best Regional University in the West, following Trinity University in Texas, the University of Portland in OR, and Whitworth University in Washington. This year's jump is the greatest single-year increase in university history. USC Aiken ranked No. 2 for best public Southern regional college.

The Goizueta Business School's ranking, which is configured separately from the University's main undergraduate program, has remained steady at No. 15 in the undergraduate business rankings.

FIU ranked 105th on the list of top public universities. Butler's First Year Seminar is required for all new students and is taken in a two-semester sequence. The Top Performers on Social Mobility is a new list for U.S. News.

"It's an incredible accomplishment for Florida State University", said President John Thrasher.

The state achieved the best-in-class ranking based, in part, on its low tuition costs and the success of its state college system, where a large share of students complete two-year degree programs within three years. The University shares that spot with five peer institutions, two of them-Brandeis and Northeastern-also in MA.

Among all national universities, including private universities, FSU ranked 57th, up from 70th a year ago. The University had remained at the 8th position since 2015 except for a blip in 2018, when Duke fell to ninth after being overtaken by Penn. Last year, UChicago was tied for third place with Columbia University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Yale University.
