New York Knicks forward Marcus Morris (13) shoots over Washington Wizards guard Ish Smith (14) during the first half at Capital One Arena.

In the team's 104-99 win, he played a game-high 40 minutes and finished with a team-high 17 points (tied with Marcus Morris).

Morris was being guarded by the Wizards' Justin Anderson in the third quarter when he swung his elbow and hit Anderson in the head.

Morris took all sorts of heat over the summer for backing out of his deal to join the San Antonio Spurs, instead signing a one-year deal with the New York Knicks in a move that drew harsh criticism around the league and from Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Morris and Anderson immediately had words, with players from both teams stepping in to intervene.

"Am I concerned [about a suspension]?" Morris admitted that he needs to play smarter and not allow his temper to get the best of him saying that a situation such as this wouldn't occur in the regular season. I would be concerned if it was regular season. If that was regular season I wouldn't have done that. But like I said in the beginning, we're not taking no s--.

"You can't be surprised with nothing that the twins do", Beal told reporters.

Moritz Wagner led Washington with 16 points, and Thomas Bryant contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds.
