It's supposed to be a bleak, rebuilding year for the Detroit Red Wings but Anthony Mantha did not get the memo. The Red Wings took both meetings past year.

In Nashville to open the season on Saturday night, Bertuzzi scored the first goal with an assist from Mantha and Larkin, Mantha scored the second goal with an assist to Bertuzzi, Larkin scored the first goal with Mantha & Bertuzzi adding another assist and Bertuzzi scored the final goal. They're 0-3 for the first time since 1988 since the franchise was located in Minnesota. With Dylan Larkin at center and Tyler Bertuzzi on the other wing, this Red Wings top line is poised to give the rest of the league some trouble.

Going into this season, the Detroit Red Wings appeared to have a rough early portion of their schedule.

The Stars tied it just 33 seconds later on Hintz's second goal of the night. Detroit has only gotten one goal from outside of their top line, which came from Luke Glendening against the Predators.

From above the left faceoff dot, Larkin sent a cross-ice pass through the slot to Bertuzzi at the right faceoff dot, where he beat Saros with a one-timer high to the glove side.

Get8ing the nod for Detroit will be Jimmy Howard and he was 23-27 with a 3.07 GAA past year, including 9-10 with a 3.27 GAA on the road. Last season, the 6-5, 234-pound right wing managed 25 goals and 48 points in 67 games and now has 73 goals and 142 points in 219 career games. The Stars scored 209 total goals last season while collecting 357 assists.

"I didn't like our start, loved our second period, and I really liked how we started the third, too", Stars head coach Jim Montgomery said, according to the team's official website.

NOTES: Detroit has beaten Nashville in 10 of 11 games since Peter Laviolette has been the Predators coach.

Just a couple days ago I wrote about how a small part of the Red Wings' lineup this season was actually cause for excitement, and how we should expect those handful of players to be the exception, not the norm.

If he continues to play anywhere near as well as he has through the first two games, 40 goals certainly isn't out of the question either.
